Out gay Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) threw anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) regret for voting for a major budget bill in her face as she pretended that she never said that she regretted voting for the bill.
At issue is the Republican “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a large spending bill that will increase the deficit by $1.7 trillion, severely cut federal programs for low-income households like Medicaid and SNAP, increase border security spending, and extend and expand income tax breaks.

It was one of many denials, deflections, and deceptions offered by Trump’s Health Secretary nominee.
It also contains conservative policy goals unrelated to the budget, like a provision banning states from regulating artificial intelligence (AI) over the next ten years. This is something that Greene, who voted for the bill in May, posted to X about, saying that she “did not know” about.

“It’s also interesting because Chairwoman Greene, I also understand now now regrets voting for this bill, as she mentioned yesterday, is that correct, Chairwoman Greene?” Garcia asked at a House Oversight Committee hearing yesterday.
“The bill actually destroys what you guys voted for for the past four years and I’m proud to have voted for that bill to fund border security…” Greene responded before Garcia cut her off.
“Yesterday you actually said that you regret actually voting for the bill. You posted after Elon’s tweet that you didn’t know certain provisions were in it and that you would have voted ‘No’ if you had known. So obviously you didn’t do a thorough review of the bill.”

Garcia was referring to a post to X that Greene wrote earlier this week where she said she is “adamantly OPPOSED” to the provision banning state regulation of AI.
“Full transparency, I did not know about this,” she wrote in her X post. “I am adamantly OPPOSED to this and it is a violation of state rights and I would have voted NO if I had known this was in there.”
“We have no idea what AI will be capable of in the next 10 years and giving it free rein and tying states hands is potentially dangerous.”
She called on the Senate to pay more attention to the bill than she did and remove this provision.
