June 10 2025, 08:15

The child of actor/comedian Eddie Murphy and Spice Girl Melanie Brown appears to have quietly come out as a trans man.

18-year-old Angel Murphy Brown reportedly updated his Instagram bio to share he uses the pronoun, him, a move that sources say has been supported by his famous parents.

They said they committed to being as authentic as possible when they decided to pursue acting.

“It’s a decision Angel made and Mel has been understanding, likewise Eddie,” one source told the Daily Mail. “There was no big event to mark it. Angel just wanted it to be known what pronouns are now suitable.”

In fact, Angel’s mother referred to him using he/him pronouns in early May during an interview with Us Weekly. Based on the star’s social media, it seems she and Angel are close. She gushed over him in an April birthday post, saying he is “so special and so bright and so talented.”

“I couldnt be prouder of watching you grow and become the person you are but youll forever be my babyyyy… Love you always,” she said.

Angel is one of Murphy’s 10 children and one of Brown’s three. The pair briefly dated in 2006, and Angel was born in 2007. He was just a baby when he skyrocketed into the public eye with a bitter paternity dispute in which Murphy at first refused to publicly acknowledge he was Angel’s father. Brown then sued for child support.

In 2019, Brown told Piers Morgan that Murphy “apologizes to this day about that.”

“He wishes he never said it,” she added, “because that baby was planned; we planned that baby together, and we were madly in love, and it just went wrong, dramatically went wrong.”

She also told US Weekly that Murphy is “a proper father” and that he and Angel spend time together.

Murphy has also apologized multiple times for his early stand-up material that included homophobic jabs, anti-gay slurs, and jokes about AIDS. In 1996, he said that the “misinformed 21-year-old” making those jokes was far from the “informed 35-year-old man” he had become.
