Labour MP Jess Asato has joined a protest against alleged “criminal sexual behaviour” involving gay nudist men on a Suffolk beach.

The Member of Parliament for Lowestoft, who was elected last year, joined residents in a community beach walk to “Reclaim the Beach” after what she described as a “spate of lewd behaviour”.

I'm hosting two events in Corton this Saturday.

Asato, a former staffer at domestic abuse charity SafeLives, said, as reported by the Daily Mail, “Residents are fed up with their beach being made a no-go area due to criminal sexual behaviour.

“Our walk was a symbol of their efforts to ensure that no-one is feels afraid to use it – and send a signal that we will not tolerate what amounts to criminal acts.”

According to reporting by the Daily Mail, the incidents involve “gay nudist men”.

Suffolk Police told PinkNews: “Since a community meeting which officers attended in March, two reports have been made to police involving incidents that took place on Corton beach. An incident of exposure was reported in May, while a man was reported to carried out an indecent act while on the beach in April of this year.

“Police have and continue to carry out patrols in the area and respond to any reports of crime. Officers would urge residents or visitors to reports any crimes in progress or incidents they have witnessed so these can be investigated.”

In response to the complaints from residents, the local authority has erected a sign. The sign reads: “Corton Beach is not a naturist beach. Lewd behaviour will not be tolerated and may be recorded by CCTV and reported to the police. Causing an offence to offence to others is a criminal offence and all causes will be reported for protection. By Order of Corton Parish Council”.

A council spokesperson said: “Businesses overlooking the beach have also been severely impacted, reporting substantial financial losses directly attributed to these behaviours.

“The parish council is obligated to support and protect the parishioners and businesses.

“Our stance remains unchanged – we recognise that nudism is a legal activity and our sign was a warning to individuals whose lewd activities were causing distress to other beach-goers.”
