On Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee voted to advance legislation introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) that would ban gender-affirming care for trans youth across the country and make such care more difficult for trans adults to access.
Called the “Protect Children’s Innocence Act” by Greene, H.R. 3492 was passed on a party-line vote and now heads to the full House of Representatives. The bill would criminalize puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries for trans youth, and impose prison sentences for anyone aiding in their use, including health care professionals and parents. The bill would also ban federal health care programs from reimbursing for gender-affirming care and ban medical schools from teaching about the form of health care.

“We’re one step closer to ending the barbaric, taxpayer-funded mutilation of children in the name of ‘gender affirming care,'” she posted, along with a video speaking in front of a battle-scarred American flag.
“We are going to protect kids. We are going to end the sickening medical abuse. And we are going to pass this bill into law.”
But Greene’s celebration could be premature.
