The queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 10 are speaking out about how corporate cowardice in the wake of Donald Trump’s re-election has impacted their livelihoods.

During the penultimate episode of All Stars 10, which aired earlier today (11 July), the remaining eight contestants began discussing how Trump’s attacks on the LGBTQ+ community have impacted them personally.

Aja, who came out as a trans woman back in 2021, kicked off the conversation by telling her fellow queens: “It’s really scary but me choosing to be visible allows people to know that we got this.”

“I really wanna be visible to let other trans girls know, you can have a happy life and we deserve to live,” she added during her talking heads confessional segment.

Back in the Werk Room, season 14 star Bosco, who came out as a trans woman in 2022, lamented the fact that it’s “so much harder to get hormones now”.

“Several states do not have it available at all,” she said.

Trump has pushed to end access to gender-affirming care for transgender youth under the age of 19, and threatened to pull federal funding for institutions that provide such healthcare. While enforcement of the executive order was blocked earlier this year, some hospitals have reportedly halted gender-affirming care amid pressure from Trump’s administration.

Bosco continued by revealing that her passport now “fully says ‘M’ (for ‘Male’) on it”.

“I’m like, that’s crazy. I can’t travel through Dubai. I can’t catch an international flight through certain countries now. I’ll get my ass detained,” she said.

“They’re not just trying to silence us, they’re literally trying to abolish us,” Aja responded.

Trump’s administration had also attempted to deny trans and non-binary individuals from being provided with a passport stamped with a gender marker that matches their gender identity, though a federal judge blocked the policy last month.

“I think a lot of that is transferring onto drag,” Bosco continued, in reference to Trump’s demonisation of the LGBTQ+ community.

“Not quite as much work [is] currently available. Booking fees are going down as a whole. Corporate sponsors are backing out of Pride.”

Fellow Drag Race season 14 queen Daya Betty then stepped in to share her experience, revealing that less businesses are keen to work with drag queens in such a hostile, anti-LGBTQ+ climate.

“I used to do a lot of sponsored things on social media and I feel like that’s dropped off a lot as well, with corporations or big, larger brands,” she said.

“I feel like they want to be less involved.”

Earlier this year it was revealed that a number of corporate sponsors are pulling out or scaling back their support of major Pride events, including New York Pride.

Campaigners believe the dwindling corporate support of Pride stems from Trump’s attacks on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

However, the corporate apprehension surrounding supporting Pride events has spread to Europe too, with Pride events in cities including Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Athens, and Liverpool having struggled with funding this year.

Rounding off the conversation, the All Stars 10 queens attempted to put a positive spin on current affairs.

“We had the privilege of growing up when the window was opening, and I hope I get to live to see the window reopen,” Irene The Alien said.

Bosco rounded off: “Well, we just have to open it ourselves for the next group.”

The RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 10 finale airs on Paramount+ in the US on Friday 18 July. It will stream on WOW Presents Plus internationally.
