In today’s unfunny political climate, sharing a laugh is an act of resistance. Too often, though, progressive comedians are afraid to get political on stage unless they’re in a similarly liberal city. How can humorists change hearts and minds if they’re only telling jokes to an echo chamber? That’s where social media comedian and live standup Corey O’Brien comes in. With his “Red Tour,” the gay Democrat is intentionally taking his act to politically conservative states—with a few notable exceptions, including Massachusetts. Perhaps to give himself a breather, O’Brien is making a “Blue Stop” in Boston, where he’ll demonstrate that big belly laughs can bridge the biggest political divides (even if they’re probably a bit narrower around here).
