Tammy Bruce, a former Democrat turned hard-right MAGA loyalist was tapped by President Trump on Saturday to serve as a deputy ambassador to the United Nations.
The longtime Fox News personality and out lesbian has served as press secretary for the State Department since January, and has a well-documented history attacking the LGBTQ+ community and promoting a raft of bizarre and undemocratic claims.

“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Tammy Bruce, a Great Patriot, Television Personality, and Bestselling Author, as our next Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador,” Trump posted to Truth Social.
In her role at the State Department, Bruce joined other out officials in the Trump administration — including Special Presidential Envoy for Special Missions of United States Ric Grenell, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant, and Director of Digital Content Billy McLaughlin — in pushing the president’s hate-filled anti-LGBTQ+ crusade.

In 2023, Bruce asserted on Fox that Pride campaigns “really do damage to the gay and lesbian community” and were “embarrassing”, after advising Americans not to condemn homophobes just because “they’re different” during the first Trump administration.
During Pride month this year, she was asked at a State Department briefing if she thought it was appropriate to ban a Pride parade, as Vice President J.D. Vance once suggested.
She replied, “Well, you know, when the vice president or any of us speak about the nature of policy or I think what’s important regarding freedom of expression, um, that’s our plan and what we feel is important to convey.”

As press secretary, Bruce has also claimed that the truth is whatever Trump says it is.
“What’s happening is what President Trump thinks and says,” Bruce said at a State Department briefing about Iran’s nuclear enrichment program.
One X user replied to a repost of her response, writing, “Sorry, we’re not North Korea.”

In the heat of the presidential campaign last year, Bruce likened Democrats to “batterers” and said Biden had “ended the world.” She said, by contrast, “We’ve always seen honesty with Trump.”
She’s also accused Disney of a “hate crime hoax” perpetrated by conspiracy theorists for opposing Florida’s infamous “Don’t Say Gay” law, which forbids LGBTQ+ instruction in public schools. Bruce believes Trump’s baseless claim that the 2020 election was “stolen” from him. She has also wished that she could give her COVID-19 vaccine back.
In 2021, Bruce raged at Biden for saying that men and women are equal, condemning him for adding the word “women” to the phrase famously contained in the Declaration of Independence.
“Alright, you noticed how he added ‘women and men are created equal,’ not just ‘men,’” Bruce said sternly on Fox. “It matters, right? That’s not what the Founders wrote.”
In 2021, Bruce claimed that Democrats were funding research into human-animal hybrids, as a lower-third banner on Fox declared, “Mutants are coming!”
