Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) could not contain his shock that he agreed wholeheartedly with a point made by right-wing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

In a speech on the Senate floor, Schumer slammed the president and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for refusing to negotiate with Democrats as the government remains shut down. The Democrats are fighting for the renewal of critical tax subsidies granted by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to be added to the current funding plan.

Schumer said Johnson has been a “massive roadblock to progress” and is “the main obstacle” in finding a path forward. But he also praised the “growing number of House Republicans who realize something needs to be done to fix this mess.”

That’s when he warned he was about to shock the nation.

“Listen to this: Marjorie Taylor Greene, one of the hardest right MAGA loyalists, broke with the speaker and said we need to fix these ACA tax credits.”

“So hold on to your hats. I think this is the first time I’ve said this. But on this issue, Representative Greene said it perfectly. Representative Greene is absolutely right. Republicans can’t sit by and do nothing while American families pay thousands more out of pocket for health care.”

Schumer emphasized that if Speaker Johnson allows the tax credits to explire, “people will go bankrupt, people will get sick.”

“Some will die,” Schumer said. “Inaction would be reprehensible, and the speaker needs to realize that.”
