Podcast host Joe Rogan made the ridiculous claim that Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene is more left-wing than Democrat and former presidential candidate Hilary Clinton, particularly on LGBTQ+ rights.

It probably goes without saying but… she is not.

Greene, a hardline MAGA Republican, has represented Georgia’s 14th congressional district since 2021 and is well-known for her extreme-right beliefs, controversial comments about hot button issues and political rivals alike, and her endorsement of conspiracy theories including QAnon and white genocide.

Greene has also espoused countless examples of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and spread misinformation about the trans community.

Discussing Greene on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, with founder of Oculus VR and military contractor Anduril Industries, Palmer Luckey, Rogan said the GOP rep would be considered more pro-LGBTQ+ today than Clinton was two decades ago.

Former first lady and New York senator Clinton, who ran against Trump in 2016 but lost to the businessman-turned-politician, did not support same-sex marriage in the early years of her political career but her position has changed over time and in 2013 she endorsed equal marriage.

“Hillary, you might remember, even in 2008 she was against gay marriage, and she was out there, “I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman,”‘ Luckey said during the episode, referencing Clinton’s 2004 comment that marriage is “not just a bond but a sacred bond between a man and a woman”.

Rogan agreed that such views nowadays would be considered “hardline” and added Clinton would be “on the right of Marjorie Taylor Greene”.

“That’s a great point,” Luckey replied. “Marjorie Taylor Greene, you’re right, she’s very pro-LGBT, she certainly is not for intervention in the Middle East.”

Luckey continued: “Like I’ve never thought about it though, Marjorie Taylor Greene would be far, far left of a Hillary Clinton running again today.”

Greene’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues is, quite simply, the opposite what what you could call ‘pro’ queer rights.

She has repeatedly disseminated misinformation about gender-affirming care

All the way back in 2021, a few months after she was elected, Greene went on a hate-filled rant on X, then Twitter, about trans kids and gay sex.

“Your identity is not your sexual preference or what you like to do in the bedroom,” she wrote on the social media platform, and which she signed from “The American People”.

“Most Americans don’t agree with the invasion of trans biological men in girls/women’s sports.

“Don’t forget Dem voters have daughters too, and do NOT want biological men beating their girls.”

Greene, who was also a vocal opponent of the Equality Act at the time, also spent 2021 attacking fellow congresswoman Democrat Marie Newman, who has a trans daughter and whose office borders Greene’s.

Newman hung a trans Pride flag outside her office in response to the anti-trans comments made by Greene in February 2021.

Greene responded by erecting her own sign outside her office that read: “There are TWO genders. MALE & FEMALE. Trust the science!”

Greene was subsequently permanently suspended from then-Twitter in January 2022 for spreading misinformation about COVID-19. However, when Musk took over the platform her account was reinstated.

Being off social media for a few months in 2022 certainly didn’t halt Greene’s anti-LGBTQ+ onslaught, as in May of that year she went on yet another rant about trans youth in which she claimed Democrats “want to turn your kids gay and have, you know, transgender”.

Amongst other things, Greene has also insisted it should be “illegal” to take children to drag shows, that monkeypox – which particularly impacted gay and bisexual men in 2022 – is a “scam” and which she later sold t-shirts mocking, she said a lesbian stepmother is not a mother because she did not give birth to the child in question and pushed the trans shooter conspiracy theory.

More recently, the GOP representative has vowed to “fight” trans women who try to use the female toilets in the US Capitol building and reintroduced a bill that could result in doctors who offer gender-affirming care being sent to jail.
