November 22 2025, 08:15 A suspect in the death of gay Parks and Recreation and King of the Hill star Jonathan Joss has been formally charged with murder, but he remains free on bail.
On 1 June, Joss, best- known for voicing John Redcorn in adult animation King of the Hill and for playing Ken Hotate in mockumentary Parks and Recreation, was shot dead outside his former home in Texas, which burned down in January. He was 59.
On 17 November, a grand jury in Houston indicted Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 57, thought to be a neighbour, with murder. However, he remains free on a $200,000 bond. Alvarez’s legal representation maintain that he is innocent.
As per CNN, the district attorney’s office said in a statement that Alvarez “is charged with murder, which is the most serious charge applicable to this crime under Texas law. As the case is still pending, no additional details or information can be released at this time.”

Following Joss’ death, his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales claimed on Facebook that the shooting was homophobic.
He wrote in the post: “Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future.”
However, San Antonio police have said they currently have “no evidence” that the killing of Jonathan Joss was a hate crime.
‘Such a sweet guy’
Joss was remembered by Chris Pratt, who appeared alongside Joss in Parks and Recreation and the 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven, as “such a kind dude”, while Nick Offerman, who also appeared in Parks and Recreation, told People that he was “such a sweet guy”.
In a joint statement, King of the Hill creators Mike Judge, Greg Daniels and Saladin Patterson said: “Jonathan Joss brought John Redcorn to life for over a dozen seasons, including in the upcoming revival. His voice will be missed, and we extend our deepest condolences to Jonathan’s friends and family.
