An Idaho bar that made headlines in recent years for its “Heterosexual Awesomeness” celebrations is in the news once again, this time for offering free beer to patrons who help Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“ALERT: Anyone who helps ICE identify and ultimately deport an illegal from Idaho gets FREE BEER FOR ONE MONTH at Old State Saloon!” read a November 29 message posted to the Eagle, Idaho, bar’s X account.

The same day, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s official X account reposted Old State Saloon’s offer, which as of December 1 has received 5.8 million views.
Later on Saturday, Old State Saloon posted screenshots to X indicating that Meta had removed its free beer offer from its Facebook profile, along with older anti-Pride posts from this past June. “Facebook is so gay,” one of the bar’s X posts read. A December 1 post on X indicated that Instagram, which is also owned by Meta, had removed the bar’s offer as well, citing the app’s Community Standards around the sale of tobacco and alcohol.
After DHS amplified Old State Saloon’s free beer offer, the bar’s Google listing was inundated with one-star reviews. The bar’s management appears to have spent the weekend responding to the negative reviews, accusing users of being “liars,” “libs,” and “losers.”
In a Monday X post, Old State Saloon noted that “Google has erased hundreds of reviews today, both good and bad.” The most recent Google review of the bar is a five-star review posted last week.
At least one customer, Ada County Republican Central Committee vice chair Ryan Spoon, has already been granted a month’s worth of free beer at Old State Saloon for allegedly assisting ICE in an arrest, The Daily Beast notes.
The bar and its owner, retired cop and self-described “heterosexual supremacist” Mark Fitzpatrick, first gained national attention in June 2024, when Old State Saloon announced its first “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” to coincide with Pride Month. This year, Fitzpatrick launched a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Heterosexual Awesomeness Inc., to raise funds for a two-day Straight Pride event that took place this past June in Boise, Idaho, drawing a paltry crowd.
