House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is facing a revolt from his own party if he doesn’t fulfill a list of promises he made to get votes for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which the lower chamber passed yesterday.

“So we made a deal,” said far-right Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL). “And actually we talked to the secretary of state directly.”

Johnson promised Luna that the State Department would stop non-government organizations from funding the Taliban, a claim with uncertainty as to its actual occurrence. Johnson even brought in Secretary of State Marco Rubio to back that promise.

Johnson also promised to “go to war” to pass a ban on a central bank digital currency, Axios reports. The Federal Reserve has said it may consider creating a digital currency as a supplement to paper money, given that so many transactions are digital nowadays.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) also said that she was promised a floor vote on her ban on transgender health care in exchange for her vote for the NDAA.

But if Johnson can’t make good on his promises, Republican House members vowed to bring down the next big spending bill.

“It either happens, or a CR [continuing resolution] goes down,” Luna told Axios. “He’s promised to be with us on that.”
