Rhett Douglas Messerly, popularly known by his adult film alias Scott Finn, has died at the age of 27, according to an online obituary written by his family. 

In the moving obituary, Messerly’s family wrote that he would be remembered for his “kindness, big smile, and silly natured personality”.

“Rhett attended Weber High School and was known as the ‘goofball’ to his peers, the ‘handsome boy with nice muscles’ to all the girls,” the obituary reads.

“He always had a way of bringing a smile and laughter to those who knew him. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his incredible capacity to help others.”

Messerly died on 23 November, according to the obituary, with his family sharing that they “find some comfort in knowing his pain here is over and he rests with his Heavenly Father again”. A cause of death has not been specified.

Messerly, who was known to his friends as Doug, was born in Ogden, Utah, on February 2nd 1998. He was known among his loved ones for his “immense capacity for accepting people for who they are, no matter how they came.”

His family described him as a “schmoozer” who, as a child, loved playing football, baseball and on the trampoline. 

“In addition to his athleticism, he was also quite competitive even in card games that could end in all-out brawls with his siblings.  Rhett also loved climbing trees and was occasionally rescued by the fire Department for climbing too high,” the obituary continues.

In adulthood, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, camping and cooking, and fixing broken things.

In the public eye, Messerly was known as Scott Finn, an adult film star who created content for explicit gay websites including Active Duty and Next Door Studios. He made his first adult film in 2018, according to his IMDb page.

He last posted on his official X account back in June, sharing a selfie and explaining to his fans that he had endured a “hard life” for the past year. 

In 2024, he posted about setting up new social media channels to focus on his chef skills.

Those who knew Messerly in his personal life have been sharing their memories with him on his memorial page, remembering him for his “amazing smile,” “hugs that could melt the worries away” and as a man who was “always looking out for others”.
