GOP Rep. says Dems swept on Tuesday because Republicans were just too happy to vote

Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) claimed in a recent interview that GOP candidates were annihilated in Tuesday’s off-year elections because Republican voters are just so happy with the state of the country.

McClain told CNN host Jake Tapper that Republican satisfaction explains why voter turnout for the party was low. “Voter turnout from Republicans was not high. Not high at all,” she said. “But I think part of that reason is because Republicans, for the most part, are happy with what’s happening.”

She then explained success in the midterms will merely be about getting those happy Republicans out to the polls, “I think there’s two sides of the coin that you have to take a look at. What is incumbent on us is we must make sure that we get our voters to turn out like they did in the election year. No question.”

Tapper mocked, “Using that argument, your voters could be so happy that the Democrats take control of the House of Representatives next year.”
