Hulk Hogan, the bleached blonde, horseshoe mustachioed WWE wrestling legend, died in his Florida home on Thursday, Clearwater Police announced today. He was 71.

The cause of death was cardiac arrest.

The only president with a worse approval rating at this point was first-term Trump.

Hogan was the face of pro-wrestling for decades and parlayed his fame with roles in film and television, which included battling Sylvester Stallone in a Rocky movie and starring in a reality series with his family, Hogan Knows Best.

He was also one of the first and few true celebrities to throw his support behind Donald Trump in this past election. He famously ripped off his jacket and t-shirt during a speech at the 2024 Republican Convention in Milwaukee to reveal a Trump/Vance tank top.

Hulk Hogan was a genuine, uniquely American creation. Fearlessly original. Flawed but unbowed. He had the courage to stand on his own principles, and he never stopped fighting for his country.

An American icon.

Hogan, who took on the moniker “Hulk” after comparisons to the popular green-tinted “Incredible Hulk” in the 1980s, was also named “most overrated wrestler” by the insider magazine Wrestling Observer several times in his career, and he admitted to using steroids to attain his sizable stature.

He regularly referred to his massive biceps as “24-inch pythons.”

MAGA is in mourning over the wrestler’s loss, with Trump leading a chorus of condolences.

“We lost a great friend today, the ‘Hulkster,’” the president posted to his platform, Truth Social. “Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way — Strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart. He gave an absolutely electric speech at the Republican National Convention, that was one of the highlights of the entire week.

“He entertained fans from all over the World, and the cultural impact he had was massive,” added Trump, 79. “To his wife, Sky, and family, we give our warmest best wishes and love. Hulk Hogan will be greatly missed!”

Trump fan-boy Charlie Kirk, founder of MAGA-youth cult Turning Point USA, called Hogan “an icon for so many young men in this country, and in a world now that is just so toxically feminine.”

“We’re losing an outwardly masculine, fun, magnanimous, cheerful, and joyful icon that so many young men looked up to,” Kirk said on his Thursday podcast. “His catchphrase was great in the ’80s. It was very Americana. ‘Train, say your prayers, and eat your vitamins.’ That’s good advice for young men,” Kirk said, omitting the addition of steroids to Hogan’s “Americana” mantra.

On X, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson shared a photo of himself with Trump, Hogan, and WWE founder and current Education Secretary Linda McMahon on the campaign trail last year.

“We all have fond memories of Hulk Hogan,” Johnson wrote. “From my childhood in the ’80s, to campaigning with him last year, I always saw him as a giant in stature and in life. May he rest in peace.”

In 2012, Hogan was backed by far-right gay billionaire Peter Thiel in a lawsuit against Gawker Media, after the website posted a video of Hogan having sex with a friend’s wife. Gawker had outed Thiel ten years earlier.

A jury awarded Hogan $140 million in 2016; a subsequent settlement reaped the wrestler more than $30 million. Gawker filed for bankruptcy soon after.

In 2015, Hogan briefly lost his WWE contract after audio of a racist screed involving his daughter’s Black boyfriend surfaced. He returned to wrestling’s embrace three years later.

Across the internet, a galaxy of Trump faithful followed the president in mourning the WWE and MAGA Hall of Famer.
