Massachusetts earned the top spot for same-sex couples to honeymoon in a new report published on the wedding publication Love Inc.
In New England, Vermont came in at number four; Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maine scored in an 11-way tie as the eighth; and New Hampshire ranked nineteenth.
The study looked at laws across all 50 US states plus DC to rate and rank how safe, affirming and inlusive each state is for LGBTQ+ honeymooners.
Reports Love Inc.:
Massachusetts is the gold standard for LGBTQ+ equality and romance. As the first U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage, it paved the way for national change — and still leads in inclusive policies, health care access and cultural representation. Whether celebrating in Provincetown’s iconic queer haven, enjoying vineyard sunsets or exploring Boston’s historic sophistication, couples can expect complete affirmation and safety.
What LGBTQ+ honeymooners should know: you can travel anywhere in Massachusetts with confidence. Provincetown and the Islands offer playful, coastal celebration energy; Boston and Cambridge bring urban culture and elegance; and the Berkshires provide serene, artistic countryside escapes. Every part of the state welcomes love, loudly and proudly.
Scoring for this data came from an analysis from most recent public and verified data available, including:
- Movement Advancement Project (MAP) — tracking LGBTQ+ laws and protections
- Human Rights Campaign (HRC) — State Equality Index & Municipal Equality Index
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) — hate-crime and reporting data
- Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) and Pew Research Center — public acceptance polls
- State and local tourism boards and healthcare directories — to measure inclusivity and access
