Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced yesterday that she will be resigning from the House of Representatives, well before the end of her third term. Her last day in office will be January 5, 2026.

She announced her resignation in a lengthy statement complaining about the national debt, corporate and “global” interests in D.C., inflation, as well as other issues, including “the trans agenda on children and against women.” Greene is one of the most vocally anti-trans members of Congress and has spent years trying to get the House to pass a federal ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth.

She also called out House Republican leadership for shutting the House down for two months this year and for not supporting the release of the Epstein files until she and several other House Republicans – along with House Democrats – signed a petition to pass a bill to release them.

“When the coommon American people finally realize and understand that the Political Industrial Complex of both parties is ripping this country apart, that no one elected leader like me is able to stop Washington’s machine from gradually destroying our country, and instead the reality is that they, common Americans, The People, possess the real power over Washington, then I’ll be here by their side to rebuild it,” she said.

“Until then, I’m going back to the people I love, to live life to the fullest as I always have, and look forward to a new path ahead.”

The president recently called Greene a “traitor” and “wacky” and said that he would endorse a challenger against her in the GOP primary next year. Greene said that she was getting prank pizza deliveries and threats of violence as a result, saying that the president’s attacks on her were “a  dog whistle to dangerous radicals that could lead to serious attacks.”

Greene was first elected to Congress in 2020. She received a score of “0” on her first HRC Congressional Scorecard, indicating her strong opposition to LGBTQ+ rights. She scored 13 out of 100 on her second because she voted against several appropriations bills that contained anti-LGBTQ+ measures (even though those measures were not the reason she opposed the spending bills).
