Anti-LGBTQ+ users of the microblogging social platform X are arguing that Pride Month in June should be replaced with a month honoring U.S. military veterans. But in responding favorably to this idea, most of the platform’s supportive commenters revealed that they care far more about antagonizing LGBTQ+ people than about honoring veterans.

Most of the resulting commenters also seem unaware that November is already designated as National Veterans and Military Families Month, since it includes Veterans Day (which occurred on November 11 this year). May is also designated as National Military Appreciation Month.

The queerphobic discussion began on X when the account @MAGAVoice asked users (in a now-deleted post), “Would you support abolishing Pride Month and replacing it with Veteran’s Month?” They followed up on the idea with another post reading, “Raise your hand if you support abolishing Pride Month and replacing it with Veteran’s Month.”

The idea then began to spread. One user, @lildragonsoul, wrote in a chronically misspelled and grammatically incorrect post, “If ‘Lgbtq’ get 1 month why do Vetrans only get 1 day? Explain why mental disorder gets celebrations for a f**king month when our vetrans who many have died for our country only get 1 f**king day!! Lgbtq should be 1 day not a f**king month!”
