Swim for Life and Paddler Flotilla plunges back into Provincetown harbor, Wellfleet pond on Sept. 6
August 14 2025, 08:15

Provincetown Swim for Life & Paddler Flotilla returns for the 38th time to Provincetown Harbor — and more recently for a non-saltwater version, at Great Pond in Wellfleet — on Saturday, September 6.

The Provincetown Harbor event has two swim routes along the shallow East End shoreline, a 1.2-mile Swim and Half-Mile Swim; Wellfleet’s Great Pond is 1 mile. For those on the harbor shore, consider organizing a private Watch Party (Contact: jay@thecompact.org) to cheer the swimmers on along the Swim route. Watch sites will be at the Cape Codder Guest House (570 Commercial), St. Marys of the Harbor (enter at 521 Commercial) and Angel Foods (467 Commercial).

For those unable to stay overnight, consider a day trip on the Swim’s longtime sponsor Bay State Cruises’ fast ferry!

“The Swim for Life’s essence embodies Provincetown as a place of healing and compassion. We celebrate our community as one that not only cares about our local health and well-being, but also about Planet Earth, which faces unparalleled environmental challenges. Provincetown is a spiritual home to people across the globe. A place of hope and promise. Swimmers have come from France, Bulgaria, Australia, Mexico, Spain, UK, Canada and beyond to our healing waters,” notes the Swim website.

“We acknowledge and honor the ancestral Lands of the Wampanoag Tribal Nation that we inhabit.and include the Native Land Conservancy as one of the beneficiaries of the Swim.”

Primary beneficiaries include AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod, Helping our Women, and Outer Cape Health Services. Community beneficiaries include the Provincetown Rescue Squad, SKIP (Soup Kitchen in Provincetown), Provincetown Schools, the Compact Community Fund, Accessible Provincetown, West End Racing Children’s Community Sailing, Native Land Conservancy, Lily House and Summer of Sass. Find out more about them all on the beneficiaries page.
