Trump’s lesbian niece blasts her uncle’s “Arc de Trump” plans: “That makes me want to die of shame”

President Donald Trump announced last week that he wants to build a “triumphal arch” in D.C. for the U.S.’s 250th anniversary, a so-called “Arc de Trump.” Mary Trump, his lesbian niece and a clinical psychologist, had a few choice words about the plan to build an arch with her family’s name on it.

Donald Trump wants an arch like the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, which was built in the early 19th century as a monument to those who fought and died for France in the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars.

While Donald Trump has not had comparable victories while in office, he said he wants one built over the Memorial Bridge that people will see as they go to D.C. from Arlington National Cemetery.

“Every time somebody rides over that beautiful bridge to the Lincoln Memorial, they literally say something is supposed to be here,” he told reporters.

Mary Trump did not share his excitement over the idea.

“Are we still shocked? Really? Are we still shocked that a man as despicable and craven and greedy and grifty and destructive as Donald Trump would be all of the things he is?” she said in a video posted to her Substack. “Are we still shocked that he would have the audacity and the complete lack of self-awareness to announce that he is ordering a triumphal arch to be built and placed at the entrance of the Memorial Bridge that leads from Arlington National Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial, in honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of this country?”

“No, no. In honor of him.”

“Are we shocked that he calls it the ‘Arc de Trump’? That makes me want to die of shame, quite frankly.”

She said that there is no use in criticizing her uncle and that people’s ire should be directed at his enablers.

“We have to shift our focus. Donald is going to keep getting away with anything he can get away with. This is his MO from time immemorial. Push the envelope; see how far he can continue to push the envelope. If he gets away with it, push it further,” she said. “Instead, we have to turn our attention to the people who are allowing all of this to happen.”

“Who is allowing all of this to happen? It is the corrupt, illegitimate supermajority of the Supreme Court and every single elected Republican, not just in Congress—not just in the House of Representatives, not just in the Senate—but in this country, from local governments, through state governments to the federal government.”

Donald Trump has faced criticism this past week for destroying the East Wing of the White House to have a ballroom built without permission from Congress. He claimed that the ballroom project has been financed through private donors, another aspect of the project that has raised accusations of financial impropriety, as private donors may now have undue influence on him.

Mary Trump brought up the destruction of the East Wing, saying that she is sure some Republicans are “horrified that Donald allowed a bulldozer to deface the facade of the East Wing” but that they’re not putting a stop to it.

“I’m sure some of them are feeling terrible about it, but unless and until they grow a spine and stand up and speak out and put a stop to these desecrations—which Congress has the power and the Constitutional responsibility to do,” she said.

When talking about the Arc de Trump, he brought up how there was leftover money from the ballroom project that could be used to fund the arch, according to the BBC.
