Will & Grace star Debra Messing has been blasted by social media users for sharing what many have described as a “racist” post regarding New York City Mayor, Zohran Mamdani.

Mamdani, 34, was elected on Tuesday (4 November) securing more than 50% of votes. Mamdani is the city’s youngest mayor since 1892, as well as its first Muslim mayor.

In his victory speech, Mamdani pledged to protect trans people in the city, building on his campaign promises as well as his pro-LGBTQ+ record.

However, not everyone is excited about his leadership of NYC. Messing, who came to fame in LGBTQ+ sitcom, Will & Grace, has not enjoyed Mamdani’s rise in the polls.

Messing’s anti-Mamdani posts have attracted a lot of attention, with one observer noting on Monday (3 November) prior to the election, that the actress had posted on her Instagram stories 91 times in 24 hours. “Not an exaggeration. I think Zohran has actually broken her brain,” user @cee_ryan added.

Among the posts that Messing, who is Jewish and an advocate of Israel, had shared was one listing “things we don’t see Jews doing” which included “Flying planes into buildings,” “Trying to dominate the world,” and “Suicide bombing.”
